Ikutan Piknik Bareng Anak Jalanan Sabtu Ini 18 Mei 2013 Yuk!

Hai semua!

My Lecture “Starting A Web Startup” For Public Lecture At Informatics Engineering ITB

Last Friday I was one of two guest lecturers for the monthly public lecture at my alma mater Informatics Engineering ITB. The other one was a senior of mine from class of 1990. This monthly public lecture is a great event for the students to learn more about the field of Informatics Engineering in real life situation from experiences of its alumni. In fact, I moderated for one of the lectures few months before I was the one who gave the lecture myself.

For my session, I shared about what I have learned during the development of UrbanIndo and from my interactions with other people in the start-up environment. And for the conclusion I gave some heads-up for the students if they want to start their own web company, e.g. how to start, how to develop their ideas into working prototypes rapidly, how to raise money, what to expect from their early consumers, etc.

It was really nice to see that the students were so eager to learn from the experiences I gave them. I hope I can inspire them to join the start-up hype and build their own products.

The presentation can be accessed here.

Pantun Pensil

pensil kayu warnanya merah
ujungnya tajam layaknya jangka
nona kemayu janganlah marah
abang pandang karenalah suka

hijau kelabu pensil berwarna
dipakai gambar indahnya puspa
merasuk kalbu wajah adinda
selalu berdebar setiap berjumpa

kertas putih bingkainya jingga
hitam tipis pensil sebelahnya
sudah letih hati menduga
nona manis adakah yang punya

pensil hilang pulpen gantinya
susah diralat jangan tersilap
merindu abang kepada adinda
apalah dibuat agar terlelap

beli pensil ke toko buku
tokonya harum semoga kan laku
nona usil mencuri hatiku
haruslah dihukum jadi pacarku

adalah pensil samping serutan
siap diguna melukis seroja
rasanya ganjil tiada tertahan
melihat nona sendirian saja

pensil hijau warnanya menawan
harganya mahal tiada terperi
wahai dikau nona rupawan
murah amal budi berseri

pensil warna habis semuanya
urungkan niat jangan berduka
biarlah nona ada empunya
namanya juga abang usaha

Thread Plurk aslinya bisa dilihat di sini.

Agak ironis memang mengingat seumur hidup gw gak pernah punya pacar. Hahaha.

**Tambahan 18 April**

B:
pensil kayu warnanya merah
dipakai buyung melukis kembang
adik lucu tidaklah marah
adik bingung tingkahnya abang

A:
pensil merah penghapus sebongkah
dipakai mewarna segaris markah
taklah mudah ini diri bertingkah
terjebak pesona indah merekah

Bantu Saya Dapatkan Gift Card McD 1 Juta Untuk Piknik Bersama Anak Jalanan

**TERIMA KASIH SEMUA!**

Dan saya menang McDonald’s National Breakfast Day Photo Contest. I’ll keep you updated about the Picnic Event with Street Children. Thanks to you all, we can afford more meals for more children.

——-

*dan ceritanya adalah berikut*

Hari Senin tanggal 18 lalu, saya secara kebetulan mendapat door-prize T-Shirt McDonalds dalam rangka National Breakfast Day.

National Breakfast Day!

National Breakfast Day!

Batagor Piknik Bersama Anak Jalanan

Batagor Piknik Bersama Anak Jalanan

Thanks for the help!

Anyway, in the mean time, mohon di-like foto yang di atas ya! (klik aja fotonya) Thanks, again!

**UPDATE**

- 2013-03-20 22:12. Mohon fotonya dilike di link berikut (actually, link2 di atas udah disamain semua sama link berikut) http://on.fb.me/ZYwtFt

  • indah nian adik berwatak, namun sayang tinggal bayangan.
  • menyepi hati nan sejenak, memandang nona dalam kenangan.
  • biarlah jemputanku kautolak, tapi jangan hatiku kaudiamkan.
  • bilakah hatimu melunak, berilah daku sedikit jalan.
  • di mana kakiku menjejak, di situ wajahmu kuimpikan.
  • terpisah kita oleh jarak, makin sukar rindu ditahan.

Apa lagi ya?

A Beggar And Rainwater Drink

It was raining really hard this afternoon. I was walking on the sidewalk of the southern part of Cihampelas road holding tightly to the red umbrella I borrowed from the office. I don’t hate rain. I hate rapid weather change. The days had been so hot for a week until two days ago. Having said that, these couple of days were actually hot just like the days before. But in the afternoon, they were raining all of a sudden. They took just a few minutes from small drops to heavy rain.

On that sidewalk with stream of water creeping through my shoes, I saw a beggar standing on the porch a small store that was already closed for the day. He was taking shelter from the rain while in the same time reaching his hand out holding a half full bottle of water. I only  needed to pay a small attention to realize that man was collecting the water from the raindrops.

Funny thing, the first thought came to my mind was that if I had been him I would have had put a paper or plastic funnel on top of the bottle. That way I could gather a lot of water in less amount of time in contrast of what the man had done waiting for drop by drop to come down inside his bottle. I do have some conscience, it’s just my habit, thinking something that is not in the right place.

The next thing came into my mind was obviously a great empathy. Clean water is treasure for some of us. I have seen people washed their clothes or even their body in dirty gutters next to crowded streets. And this man might be no different from the rest. I walked past him. After few steps, I stood for a while. I recalled that I had a small water bottle hanging on my bag’s belt. I was thinking whether I should give him or not. What should I say to him? What if he collected water not for drink but for something else? Is my water enough for him? Should I give my drinking water even though the rainwater was clean enough for drink?

It has always been weird for me to give something to a less fortunate people when they are not asking for it. This man was only collecting the raindrops and there I was taking a very long time just to think whether I should give him water or not. Finally I decided that whatever the outcome of my next actions would be, it was the thought that really mattered. I remembered that there was a convenience store not very far from there. It was near yet it was a hard path due to the flooded slippery road and the numerous passing vehicles.

I spent some time to buy four bottles of water. When I was about to cross the street, I tried to take a look at where the man was.

I know it happens to most of young people including me. Because we are still young and don’t have money, we promise that we will for sure give some of our money to the less fortunate in the future when we already have a lot. But I keep asking to myself, what if we will never have the chance to do it. In each passing days, for sure we will have more many than the day before. But we also will have more needs. What if one time we pass the chance, and the chance will be there in front of us until it vanishes just before we are ready to take the action. At the moment, I knew I would feel a great regret if the man already vanished from where he was. I could have given him my small bottle of water but I waited long moment to buy a lot more water for him. He might have finished filling his bottle and went away to take a better shelter.

Fortunately, he was still there. Should he use a funnel, he would have filled his bottle and be long gone before I reached the other side of the street. Fortunate for me I didn’t have to go through a guilty feeling. Fortunate for him, he would get a lot more water than the one in the bottle he was holding. I came to him and with a bit of hesitation I asked him.

“Sir, is that for drink?”, I pointed to the bottle on his hand. He nodded with startled reaction drawn on his face.

“Sir, you can drink these”, I offered a plastic bag with four bottles of water inside. It had to have been very weird for him to receive those things from a strange just as for me to give those for a stranger without him asking first.

He picked the pink plastic bag from my hand and placed it somewhere on the floor close to the door of the small shop. I figured that it had to be the place where he would spend the night. He then continued what he was doing, gathering the raindrops from the roof into his nearly-full bottle.

I was slightly puzzled inside my heart when he did that. Sir, you now have a lot more of water than what you had five minutes ago. It maybe you are just a simple man, or you are trying to save more water for the uncertain tomorrow, or maybe you just want to finish what you have started. Any way, I hope you have enough water for days now. When I’m in the neighborhood again, I may see how you have been doing given you won’t be wondering somewhere else.

I turned around from the man. I walked away holding my umbrella more tightly for the wind was blowing harder than before. Everything under my knees; my jeans, my shoes, and my socks are completely soaked. It was wet and cold on the outside but I felt really great inside.

Sepantun Dua Pantun

Pantun pertama cukup singkat

Mentari setitik merambat tinggi. Wahai putri cantik, selamat pagi!

Bisa dimodifikasi jadi

Fajar setitik merambat tinggi. Wahai pacar cantik, selamat pagi!

Terbanjur cokelat, roti keju sedap dihidang. Terlanjur melekat, senyummu sekejap dipandang

rantingnya lima batangnya kelabu.
Sungguh manis suaramu kudengar,
kan selalu bergema di relung kalbu.

UPDATE: Ini masih bisa dibagusin

Tumbuh perdu di bahu pagar,
rantingnya lima berwarna kelabu.
Sungguh merdu suaramu kudengar,
serasa bergema meruah di kalbu.

Happy Valentine, anyway!

Well f*ck this, I’m going to live anyway.

Yeah, f*ck this! I’m going to live!

You mean the moment you wake up and realize that you will never be one of the beautiful people, or discover cold fusion or change the world?

Most people just go and get drunk with friends and talk about what they might do if only the universe would let them.

Some people give up doing anything at all.

A few people keep doing what they can.

And every once in a while, someone changes the world after all.

Here’s something important and true:

It’s not the moment you’re most down when you unlock your potential. It’s the moment after that. When you look at where you are and think, “Well fuck this, I’m going to live anyway.”

Pantun Dibuang Sayang

Burung gelatik, indah bulunya. Pekat hitam, sungguh warnanya elok. Nona cantik, manis senyumnya. Selamat malam, sampai jumpa lagi esok.

Merona bulan menanti pagi. Mengusir kelam cahayanya gemerlap. Nona rupawan, wahai pujaan hati. Selamat malam, semoga terlelap.

Lumayan menantang.

So I went to the SMTown Jakarta

And here’s the long story. (Seriously, this is very long). It’s really unbelievable that I got a second chance to watch my newest favorite artist, Girls’ Generation, for the second time in this year. Just realised that I have never shared anything about them in this blog. In fact, I wrote something about my trip to their concert early this year but it’s still kept as draft. Hope this one got the chance to get out.

So yesterday (at the time I’m writing this), I attended the SMTown Live World Tour III in Jakarta. This year is really the year of concerts in Indonesia. There have been so many concert held here in Indonesia. And many of some of them are KPop Concert. There was the Super Junior’s Super Show few months ago. And there’s this SMTown I’m writing about. And I believe there will be Big Bang and Wonder Girls.

At first, I was not really interested attending the SMTown. The reason was that because Girls’ Generation wouldn’t be performing by themselves in the concert. SMTown is a joint performance by all of artists under the label of SM Entertainment. Since I only like Girls’ Generation, it should be understandable why I wasn’t interested. The second reason was that because I didn’t find friends to watch with. I though (and it turned out that I was right) would have been so boring to watch the performances for the artists that I didn’t really know. So watching with a friend might lighten up the burden. And for the final reason, I was too late to book the ticket. And then the tickets were sold out, or so what I believed.

Few weeks later, I read in SoneID’s (the Indonesian fanbase for Girls’ Generation) twitter that they had  a ticket available for Festival B. Not the site that I wanted, but since two of my friends confirmed that they also bought the same tickets, I guessed that was no brainer. So I contacted the person and bought the ticket.

Right before the dawn of the concert day, I took a travel car from Bandung to Jakarta. It wasn’t my intention to get on the head of the entrance queue. But the person from whom I bought the ticket said that she would be in the venue in the morning so I assumed she might want to be on the queue earlier and I respected that. Just minutes after I hopped on the car and sit, several girls also got into the car. From the look of it, I guessed that those girls also wanted to watch the concert. And I thought they were most likely fans of Super Junior.

Apparently I was right, well, for the half of my guesses actually. I asked one of them (and actually she was pretty cute, though) about it after the car reached its pool in Jakarta. I didn’t bother to ask in the car because I just mastered this technique to sleep  for whole Bandung to Jakarta trip and I wanted to try it. I did successfully wake up right when the car entered the pool, but it wasn’t really important. The important thing was they were actually going to watch SMTown, although when I asked about my second guess, they strongly denied that they were fans of Super Junior.

What made it good was they were also fans of Girls’ Generation just like me. And what made it even better was they were also from ITB, although not from the same major as I was; they were from mathematics major while I was graduated from computer science. But nevertheless, it was really nice to meet people with a couple of things in common. And since I was more senior in both topics about Girls’ Generation and ITB, I didn’t throw a single chance to brag. I told them stories about when I attended the Girls’ Generation Tour earlier this year and when I still studied at ITB. I even showed a picture from the former topic. They were quite enthusiastic. I was feeling bad that we couldn’t watch the concert together because we had separate seating sections. My ticket was for Festival section and theirs were for Tribune section.

Here’s the first entry at Gate 2.

After talking for nearly half of an hour, I had to part with them to meet the person who got my ticket. I was a little bit in hurry because I was planning to go elsewhere after I got my ticket. Then I walked (which was very very far) from Grand Lucky to Gelora Bung Karno, the venue. And I found that the venue was already crowded although it was still 8 in the morning. I wasn’t surprised. There will always be fans who take a lot of effort to be right in front of their beloved idols. In most of cases I heard, their struggling were fruitful, or at least in this concert I’m writing about.

Queue

The queue was already long in the morning.

After contacting the person (okay, her name is Delvina, writing her as “person” is very rude), I soon realized that I came into the wrong gate. I arrived at Gate 2 while our meeting should be at Gate 1. It was a very long way between those two gates. And I was already tired walking under Jakarta’s hot sun. So I took an ojeg to Gate 1.

There at Gate 2, the crowd was so enormous. And it was growing even bigger for every minute I spent waiting for Delvina to come. After waiting for almost two hours, I got a text from her that she was already in one of the booth. I went to her and got the ticket.

So this was the ticket.

Now here’s a funny thing. At that time I already knew that Festival A would be crowded by Girls’ Generation fans (or Sone, as we are usually called). All those Sones was going to have an event for the girls so they were organized into Festival A section. Since I was too late to book the ticket, I could only get my hand on the Festival B section ticket. That was good enough for me. The funny thing is that apparently the Super Junior fans (or ELF) were gathered and that day I wore blue t-shirt, the official color of the ELFs. That’s why when Delvina handed the ticket to me, she was joking, “It’s a good thing that you wear blue, you know.” Actually that time I was afraid for the ELFs. Rumor has it that they are pretty nasty fans. I was hoping so much that there wouldn’t be something bad happened at my section.

And then there was still that matter of waiting for the concert itself. I remembered my companions who were the reason I bought the ticket, Aswin and Devon. I repeatedly texted Devon just to find that he woke up really late. He had told me before that he was planning to arrive very early to join those ambitious fans. I could only laugh. I told him to bring some water, snacks, and umbrella if he was really going to queue from that morning.

What about me? Did I start queuing at that time? Nope, I went to fX, a mall near Gelora Bung Karno. But before I went, I met once more with the girls whom I met earlier in the morning (including that cute one). I was so ashamed because she was the one who greeted me first and she remembered my name while I didn’t. And they were a little bit confused about the queue. Yeah, the queue were chaos but I’ll get on that later. At that time I also didn’t have a clue about the queue, but I overheard from someone that those who got Tribune section tickets should queue at Gate 2.  I retold what I overheard to them. It occurred to me later that it didn’t matter because after going through both gates, you would meet the second entries more horrible. So, wherever you are, if you are reading this, I apologize if my explanation made you uncomfortable by any means. And I kind of regret that I didn’t ask for your phone number (oops!).

While I’m writing this, I feel a little bit sleepy. So I think I’ll just publish this and continue the rest (hopefully) tomorrow.
